Choose one!

Comment on your own blog the following question: What would you have chosen If you had been the protagonist of the story? Choose a picture as an answer and explain why you choose it.

It is hard to choose between Fame, Love, Riches, Pleasure, Death. And as the man said at the end of the story, most of them are but temporary disguises for lasting realities--Pain, Grief, Shame, Poverty. I choose Death because is the only certain thing in life. It comes to us all, doesn't make any differences between men: for it we are all equal. It doesn't mock you, solves all your problems, frees you from the awful reality you're living in... Yes, I choose death.

The perfect gift...

RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION:
What would you have done if you had been on him or her shoes? Why?

When I read this short story, I couldn't help to feel totally identified with the female character, Della, who so in love with Jim that she is willing to sacrifice her beautiful hair to buy a precious gift for him. When you are in love, sacrifices don't hurt a bit, just like Della: she didn't care about her hair or about anything else, she only wanted to make Jim happy. And this is what we want when we love somebody, to make that somebody happy no matter the cost. Just to see him smile because I surprised him with something that he wanted, it's such a satisfaction to me heart and soul...

Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart

A quotation of Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart...

"The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. I was singularly at ease. They sat, and while I answered cheerily, they chatted of familiar things. But, ere long, I felt myself getting pale and wished them gone. My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears: but still they sat and still chatted. The ringing became more distinct: --It continued and became more distinct: I talked more freely to get rid of the feeling: but it continued and gained definiteness --until, at length, I found that the noise was not within my ears."

Maybe what the author of this short story tried to depic in this part was how does it feel when somebody is about to discover that you did something bad. Paranoia is starting to affect the main character, he thinks he got away with it, but sooner or later your mind plays tricks on you and you don't have control over it. Hearing things that are not there, acting paranoic makes him vulnarable and finally the horrible truth comes out, because it is eating him from the inside.
